What Does My Acura Warranty Include?

The New Vehicle Limited Vehicle Warranty, or Acura new car warranty coverage, is for four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This exclusionary coverage is a bumper-to-bumper warranty, and repairs and replacements from parts defective in material or workmanship are covered. The Acura New Vehicle Limited Warranty also protects the 12-volt battery.

Other parts of the 2020 Acura factory warranty include:

  • Powertrain Limited Warranty—This warranty protects your powertrain, which is the engine, transmission, front and rear wheel drive, and related components, for six years or 70,000 miles, whether comes first.
  • Federal Emissions Warranty—Acura’s Emissions-related Defects and Performances Warranties cover items in the emissions control systems.
  • California Emissions Warranty—This is similar to the Federal Emissions Warranty but for vehicles registered in California or other states that follow their emissions regulations.
  • Hybrid Powertrain Warranty—If your new Acura uses a hybrid powertrain, this warranty will apply in addition to the above warranties.
  • High Voltage Battery Capacity Warranty—If your high voltage battery degrades faster than normal, it’s covered for eight years or 100,000 miles.
  • Seat Belt Limited Warranty—If your seat belts don’t work or break, Acura will repair them for the first 15 years or 150,000 miles.
  • Rust Perforation Limited Warranty—This includes repair or replacement for body panel that rusts from the inside out for the first five years (no mileage limit).
  • Accessory Limited Warranty—Depending on time of installation, all Acura accessories are covered for up to four years or 50,000 miles.
  • Replacement/Remanufactured Parts Limited Warranty—As long as you purchase them from a dealer, Acura Genuine replacement parts are covered from at least one year, and Acura Genuine Remanufactured Parts are covered up to three years or 36,000 miles.
  • Replacement 12-Volt Battery Limited Warranty—If you purchase a replacement battery from the Acura dealership, it’s covered for 100 months (eight years and four months). As the battery ages, Acura will cover a smaller percentage of the cost. Also, this warranty excludes the Hybrid Powertrain System battery.
  • Replacement Exhaust Components Lifetime Limited Warranty—Mufflers, A-pipes, and B-pipes purchased from an Acura dealer are covered as long as you own the vehicle. Installation is also sometimes included.

It’s important to read your specific car’s warranty, as details could vary between models. After your warranty expires, you will need to pay for any repairs out of your own pocket, unless you buy an extended warranty.

What’s Included in the Acura Certified-Pre Owned Warranty?

Acura CPO vehicles are covered for two years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, after the original New Vehicle Limited Warranty expires.

Does My Acura Warranty Cover Tires?

The new Acura doesn’t cover tires. Instead, tires are covered by their manufacturer, whether that’s Bridgestone/Firestone, Hankook, Maxxis, Continental, JK, Michelin, Goodyear/Dunlop, or Kendra.

Are Acura Warranties Transferable?

Acura states their warranties are transferable to an unlimited number of owners, as long as it’s within the original warranty terms. The exception is the Rust Perforation Limited Warranty, which can’t be transferred. Knowing whether your Acura warranty is transferable to a subsequent owner is important because it can help maintain the car’s value if you decide to sell it.

What’s Not Included in Acura’s Warranty?

Acura has a few guidelines about what types of repairs and replacements aren’t covered in the Acura warranty.

THESE INCLUDE PARTS THAT FAIL DUE TO:

  • Abuse or misuse
  • Low fluid levels or use of the wrong fluids
  • Improper fueling procedures
  • Accidental damage
  • Installing parts that lesser quality than the originals
  • Installing a part that’s not designed for your Acura’s make and model
  • Acts of nature
  • Using the vehicle in a competition or racing
  • An altered odometer
  • Improper installation or maintenance

Some of these instances may even void your warranty, so carefully read your owner’s manual to make sure you don’t accidentally lose your protection.

Keep in mind these Acura limited warranties only cover faulty parts—normal wear and tear isn’t covered. Also, repairs and replacements that your auto insurance would normally cover, such as flood damage or damage after a collision, isn’t under this warranty.

Acura’s Reliability and Repair Costs

No car owner wants to find himself stuck with surprise repair costs. If your Acura warranty doesn’t cover a repair or replacement, or if your warranty expires, it’s up to you to foot the bill. Your car’s reliability becomes more important as it ages.

Is Acura known to be reliable? According to the 2016 American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), Acura placed last among 24 surveyed automakers and saw an 8% decrease from its 2015 ACSI score. In Consumer Reports’ comparison, Acura went up six spots in 2019 but then dropped eight spots in 2020. That means you should do research on your specific Acura model to get a good idea of reliability.

That said, it’s normal for cars to have maintenance costs and the occasional repair. These are some common Acura repairs for a variety of models:

Model

Repair or Replacement

Cost

Acura SLX

Axle shaft replacement

$705–$747

Acura MDX

Seat heater switch replacement

$226–$405

Acura RLX

Brake caliper replacement

Acura TL

Acura RDX

Turbo failure

$8,700

Why Should I Consider an Extended Warranty?

If these Acura repair prices make you nervous, consider purchasing an extended Acura warranty to offset the costs. An extended warranty is a type of service contract where instead of paying for a complete repair, you can pay either a manageable annual or monthly payment.

Extended warranties are available from both the Acura dealer—called Acura Care—and third-party companies like CARCHEX.

Acura Care

An Acura’s extended warranty from the dealer is available through four different coverage levels:

  • New Vehicle Coverage (bumper-to-bumper)
  • Pre-Owned Vehicle Coverage
  • Certified Additional Coverage
  • Powertrain Coverage (pre-owned vehicles only)

WHILE THE POWERTRAIN COVERAGE PLAN ONLY INCLUDES THE POWERTRAIN, THE OTHER THREE PLANS INCLUDE:

  • Electronics (computers, electronic components, and electrical system)
  • Drivetrain (engine, transmission, differential, and axles)
  • Roadside assistance benefits (rental car, trip interruption, etc.)
  • Chassis (suspension, steering, and brake system)
  • Acura Genuine Accessories (navigational system, security system, and audio and communication devices and accessories)
  • Heating/cooling (air conditioning, heating and cooling system)
