Every new Nissan vehicle comes with a Nissan factory warranty that is often referred to as “bumper-to-bumper” coverage. This Nissan warranty includes the following coverage:

  • 3-year / 36,000-mile limited warranty—This Basic Coverage warranty covers the repairs needed to correct defects in materials or workmanship of parts original to the Nissan vehicle within 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
  • 5-year / 60,000-mile limited powertrain warranty—This warranty covers the Nissan vehicle’s major systems, such as the transmission, engine, and drive systems, original to the vehicle or supplied by Nissan.   • 10-year / 120,000-mile warranty extension—This warranty is included for some 2003-2010 vehicles that have a continuously variable transmission (also known as CVT limited warranty extension).
  • 5-year / unlimited mile corrosion coverage—This warranty covers perforation from corrosion, meaning any body sheet panel that has rusted through.

Warranties are designed to protect you from covering high repair costs if anything happens to your Nissan during the initial period of ownership. That can be a real lifesaver when you consider that even common repairs can easily cost hundreds or thousands of dollars.

What the Nissan Factory Warranty Doesn’t Cover

With a Nissan warranty, you might think, Great, I’m covered! For the most part, that’s true. If you are still within the terms of your factory warranty, most of the repairs and maintenance costs you encounter should be covered, with some exceptions. The Nissan factory warranty does not cover the following:

  1. Normal maintenance, service, and parts replacement—If it’s a regular, scheduled service, you’ll have to pay for it out of pocket. This information can be found in your Owner’s Manual and your Nissan Service & Maintenance Guide.
  2. Failures that are direct results of poor maintenance—If you don’t keep your car maintenance up-to-date and something goes wrong, your warranty won’t cover it. How’s that for motivation?
  3. Using the wrong parts—If you use a defective part not certified by federal requirement, it will keep you from having your warranty cover the repair.
  4. EPA testing fees—The costs associated with determining the cause of your vehicle failing an emissions test will not be covered by the factory warranty.
  5. Non-Nissan parts—Parts not supplied by Nissan or damage to other parts caused directly by non-Nissan parts will not be covered by the warranty.
  6. Resulting damage—There’s a long list of elements and events that may cause damage to your vehicle, such as accident, collision, environmental conditions, racing, and theft. These are not covered by your Nissan warranty.
