Pat Goss' Vehicle History Tips
Beyond Inspections
When you purchase a used car you will undoubtedly take it for a test
drive to get a feel for its operating condition. You will probably also
spend some time inspecting the vehicle, kicking the tires, and making
sure that you cannot see any signs of previous damage. Many people take
the time to bring cars to their local mechanics prior to making the purchase
because they hope the mechanics will discover any potential mechanical
problems. All this cautionary behavior, however, may not reveal issues
in the car's history. Used vehicle reports should be used in tandem with
personal inspections, test drives, and mechanical inspections. A used
vehicle report may be able to reveal items which the inspections will
not. Perhaps the car was once used as a police cruiser, and this knowledge
makes you uncomfortable. Maybe the car was once stolen and taken for
a lengthy joy ride. The car may have once been engulfed in flames and
then refurbished. While the other inspections will probably not discover
this type of information, a used vehicle report will. Purchasing a used
vehicle report should be one step you take before agreeing to buy a used
car.
