Pat Goss' Vehicle History Tips
Necessary Information
Ordering a vehicle history report is a great idea when you are in the
market for a used car, but you may be wondering what information you
will need in order to request the report. Luckily, requesting the report
is relatively easy and does not require much information at all. After
you have found a used car that you like, you should copy down the car's
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This is a series of digits assigned
to every single car on the road. VINs are comprised of seventeen digits
including numbers and letters. No two cars have the same VIN, so the
VIN is used to identify the car and also to record information regarding
the car. You can find the VIN for the car you are considering buying
on the dashboard near the windshield, on the driver's side door, and
on several parts within the engine. When you copy down the VIN make sure
that you have all the letters and numbers transcribed correctly because
this is the number you will need to request a vehicle history report.
It is also wise to check the VIN in more than one location on the vehicle
to make sure it matches up. There is usually no other information needed
in order to request a vehicle history report. When you give the VIN to
a vehicle history company you will receive a full history of the car.
