Thinking about buying a used car as a gift this holiday season? Make sure you inspect it before buying to make sure it’s not a lemon. But, even if you think you know a lot about cars, it is best to leave used car inspection to a professional.

Getting a used car inspected is something you should not attempt yourself. Modern cars are so complex that you’re not qualified to do a proper inspection. So, what do you do? You take it to a trusted technician and have it evaluated from bumper to bumper. If you happen to take it to a dealership, ask them to perform the same examination on your vehicle that they would do if they were certifying a vehicle for sale for the manufacturer. Now, if it happens to be out of state you could get a CARCHEX inspection on the vehicle so that you know what is going on. You also want to make sure that you order a CarFax vehicle history report so that you know what the history of the vehicle is. By doing your homework you can really save some money by buying a pre-owned vehicle.
